Is it prudent to invest in diamonds?
Diamond has always been associated with the rich. In the days of yore, it was reserved for the royals – only kings and queens could possess it. Even today, one has to shell out a king's ransom to possess the precious stone.
Investment in precious metals and stones, like gold and diamond, has always been seen as a sensible option primarily because the risk of their prices getting eroded is quite negligible. Diamond and gold have for long been considered an ideal hedge against inflation.
However, it is not advisable to put all your money in one investment basket. It is highly recommended that one has investments in other asset classes like equity and real estate, too.

How do I take care of my diamond?
Diamond may be the hardest material occurring naturally, but that does not mean it cannot suffer damage. Heavy impact can create cracks in diamonds.
Diamond has to be stored separately from other precious metals and stones. Since it is quite hard, diamond can cause scratches in articles stored with it.
Don’t use chemicals to clean diamonds. Instead use a solution of ammonia mixed in warm water. Also, don’t scrub the diamond too hard as this may cause scratches on its surface.
What are the 4cs?
The 4Cs – cut, color, carat and clarity – are a mark of how rare and precious a diamond is.
Cut determines how much light a diamond will reflect and, in effect, how much it will sparkle. Cut also gives various shapes to a diamond – round, oval, etc.
Color: The most important feature of a diamond after cut is color. It is graded on a scale of D to Z, D being colorless, or white, and Z being yellow. The rarest, and the most precious diamonds, have colors in the D-F range.
Carat: Carat is a measure of the size of the diamond. The higher the carat, the more costly the diamond is.
Clarity: Diamonds can be without any defects or flaws, called inclusions, or could have internal or external inclusions or both. Diamonds with big inclusions command less price and vice-versa.
